The Defect Liability Period (DLP) for the proposed elevated corridor in the city is 10 years, the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) said on Monday.

In its clarification to Deccan Herald, KRDCL Managing Director B S Shivakumar wrote: "The actual fact as per Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) agreement copy is that the DLP will be 10 years from the date of completion of the elevated corridor. It has been made impeccably clear that the contractor shall be responsible for all defects and deficiencies for 10 years from the date of completion of elevated corridors. The DLP shall commence from the date of the completion certificate."

However, K S Krishna Reddy, Secretary to the government for Public Works Department, who is also in-charge of KRDCL for the implementation of the project, said the rule was recently amended to increase the DLP.

"We have now amended the condition. The contractor who completes the construction will be liable for the DLP of the corridor for 10 years. The amendment was recently made. Earlier, the bidders had the DLP for three years," Reddy said.

On May 26, DH had carried an article on elevated corridor project titled 'Just 3-year guarantee for elevated corridor'.
