The Bangalore Rural and Ramanagara police have decided to issue safety guidelines to all educational institutions in their respective districts on the lines of those issued by the Bangalore City Police Commissioner.

Hundreds of international, residential and other private schools located on the outskirts of the City are under the jurisdiction of Bangalore Rural and Ramanagara district police. Hence, the guidelines issued by Bangalore City Police Commissioner will not apply to them.

Thus, to prevent any untoward incidents in educational institutions in their jurisdiction and to ensure safety of students, Superintendents of Police of the two districts have taken a decision to enforce similar guidelines.

“We are already working on it and will soon issue the safety guidelines for all academic institutions that function within the limits of Ramanagara district,” SP Anupam Agarwal told Deccan Herald.

“Our DySPs have already given necessary instructions to some institutions. We will hold a meeting shortly and come out with specifications. The junior officers will supervise the implementation of the guidelines,” he said.

Schools run by the Centre and State governments as well as local administrative bodies will also have to comply with the norms and there is no discrimination.

“Our top priority is to ensure the safety of everyone in institutions,” Agarwal added.“There are a large number of educational institutions in Ramanagara district police limits.

Hence, we have decided to concentrate on major ones in the first phase. We will cover the remaining institutions in the second phase. We are planning to give one month’s time to major institutions to ensure that the guidelines are implemented,” he said.

The SP said he has decided to direct all training schools, colleges as well as the institutions of higher learning to follow the guidelines.

Bangalore Rural SP B Ramesh told Deccan Herald: “I will convene a meeting of senior officers on Wednesday and discuss the issue of guidelines. We will follow the model of school safety guidelines issued by the Bangalore Police Commissioner.

“The meeting will also discuss whether to direct all academic institutions or only nursery, pre-nursery, primary and high schools to implement the guidelines.”
