Paper 'leak': RGUHS rules out re-exam

Amid rumours and confusion over the leak of a 2nd year MBBS examination paper, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on Saturday clarified that it will not conduct any re-exam as the alleged leak of question paper happened minutes after the commencement of the examination.

The university on Saturday held the examination for the 2nd year MBBS degree in Microbiology-1 subject. The rumours of a question paper leak on social media were reported from Chitradurga. Moments after the commencement of examination, the question paper was circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms triggering confusion among students.

Acknowledging that the question paper circulated on social media was identical to the actual question paper, Dr Prashanth, Head, Examination wing of Sri Basaveshwara Medical College said, “There are similarities between the question paper that was circulated on social media and actual paper that was given out to the students in the exam hall. However, the question paper was not circulated publicly before the examination. Hence it can not be considered a question paper leak.”

The college claimed that 36 students had appeared for the exam and entered the examination hall 20 minutes before the examination.

The college officials had downloaded the paper online at 8.45 am and circulated it to the students accordingly. “The question paper has not been leaked to social media from our college and there is no lapse on our part as we downloaded the paper according to university instructions. In fact, we have CCTV footage as evidence.

“We do not know from which centre the paper was leaked. We are ready to face any inquiry in this regard,” Dr Prashanth clarified.

Allaying the fears of the students, Dr S Sachidanand, vice-chancellor of RGUHS told Deccan Herald that there is no question of conducting a re-examination. “As the reports say that the paper was circulated minutes later the commencement of examination, you cannot call it as leak.

“By then, the students would have been inside the examination hall. Hence there is no scope for conducting re-examination.”
