Property tax collection up in City: Guv

Property tax collection has improved in the City with the identification of 15 lakh properties using Geographical Information System (GIS) technology, Governor H R Bhardwaj said on Monday.

While addressing the members of the Assembly and the Council for a short duration, he said for the first time a special grant of Rs 200 crore had been accorded to City Municipal Corporations for comprehensive development. Infrastructure in small and medium towns is being developed under ‘Nagarothan’ scheme at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore, he added.

The Peenya-Malleswaram Bangalore Metro line, covering 10.5 km, would become operational in June this year, Bhardwaj said and added that the government had already got the approval to start work on the Phase II of Metro work covering 72 km stretch at a cost of Rs 26,405 crore.

Development of parks

He also said that the BBMP had commissioned 17 underpasses, surface passes and flyovers at important traffic junctions to reduce traffic congestion, while Rs 150-crore work involving development of parks was underway. About 17 lakes in the City have been rejuvenated, while rainwater harvesting has been implemented in 40,000 buildings, he added.
