Rain-related complaints flood Palike control rooms

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control rooms have received a flurry of complaints from residents, a day after heavy rain coupled with gusty winds pounded the City.

Most of the complaints reported were related to tree fall and water logging. According to the Palike, more than 100 trees were uprooted in Mahadevapura, East, Dasarahalli and Yelahanka zones.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF-North),  Satyanarayana said, “The Palike workers on Friday have cleared all trees that were uprooted in East Zone during Thursday’s thunder showers. On Saturday, the workers will clear the trees uprooted in Mahadevapura, Dasarahalli and Yelahanka zones,” he added.

Residents of low-lying areas such as Anepalya, DJ Halli, Neelasandra and pockets of Shivajinagar, Nagawara among others have complained of water logging and overflowing drains. Meanwhile the residents of Chickpet and a few pockets in HBR Layout have complained that they faced hardships due to power outage. 

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) Managing Director, Pankaj Kumar Pandey said that Bescom personnel were working round the clock to restore power supply. He added that, but for a few areas, power has been restored in the City. 

Complaints

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company has received a total of 5533 complaints in the last 24 hours (Since Thursday 4 pm).  The staff has attended 3490 complaints and 2043 complaints are pending.

“Thursday’s rain has damaged over 200 electricity poles. Fortunately, no electricity-related accidents were reported. Charging lines without testing and certifying their safety may prove dangerous to public and to our own staff,” Pandey added.
