Speaking in the Legislative Council, Acharya said the Kerala Home Department had deployed only three police constables at the place where the accident occurred. Had the government taken measures to manage traffic, the accident could have been avoided.

Acharya said the State government had sent two teams under the leadership of two ministers to Kerala to monitor rescue measures. The bodies of those died in the accident had been brought to the state, he said.

The House adopted a resolution mourning the death of Sabarimala devotees and P Thippaiah, a former legislator.
