The students of MVJ International School, Marathahalli, East Bengaluru, held a protest against Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday over the dumping of garbage in front of the school.

According to the students, this was posing serious health hazards to them and there was also traffic congestion.

“The school is facing serious problems due to garbage and a cowshed compost pit near the school,” said a staff from the school.

“Also traffic jams delay students reaching school on time,” she added.

Over 300 students, staff and parents took out a march from the school to Marathahalli BBMP office. They met Mehaboob, health inspector of the BBMP and submitted a memorandum. The officer assured the students to look into the matter.

“The health of some students has been affected due to the garbage heap and cowshed. The continues honking by vehicles disturb the class as well,” said a student.

Another staff said: “The school authority had raised the issue with the BBMP and the traffic police multiple times but no action was taken.”
