Surgery goes awry, corporator in a coma

Elumalai V, the independent corporator from the Sagayapuram ward, has gone into a coma after suffering a heart attack during a minor surgery that reportedly went awry.

The corporator was admitted to Santosh Hospital in Coles Park on Saturday after complaining of pain in the nose, his brother Prakash Elumalai said.

"My brother had undergone a minor surgery on the doctor's advice. But he suffered a heart attack due to some mishap or wrong treatment while being given anaesthesia," Prakash added.

Elumalai has now been shifted to Vikram Hospital on Millers Road. Doctors from Santosh Hospital refused to comment on the matter.

Elumalai was the chairperson of the BBMP standing committee on social justice and welfare during the term of the previous mayor.
