This Independence Day, the Lalbagh flower show will bloom in glory of the Indian Armed Forces.

The Horticulture Department, at a detailed meeting held on Saturday evening, has decided to pay floral tributes to soldiers this time. The secondary theme of the show at Lalbagh Botanical Garden will be 85 years of Kannada film industry.

M Jagadeesh, joint director, Horticulture Department, told DH that the plan is to create a floral submarine, a fighter jet and a bunker with an armed soldier inside.

“Discussions will be held with the defence personnel, HAL and the war memorial committee. Around 15 years ago, a floral missile dedicated to Nasa was created. But this time around, it will be entirely dedicated to Indian soldiers. This main theme will be hosted in the glass house,” he said.

The area around the glass house and the backside, spread across 80 feet, will be utilised to create a floral film floppy, camera, reel and other replicas dedicated to the Kannada film industry. The contribution of the armed forces, and awards and milestones of the Kannada film fraternity (national and Dadasaheb Phalke) will be displayed, he said.

Apart from roses, the Horticulture Department has decided to utilise new flowering plants and flowers this time. The final list of flowers and types is being worked upon.

The last flower show (on Republic Day) was dedicated to Lord Bahubali, on the Mahamastakabhisheka theme.
