Several yoga centres in the city organised special events to mark Rathasapthami celebrations on Friday.

Jayanagar-based Shankara Ashtanga Yoga (SAY) Trust organised an event in Jayanagar 3rd Block where more than 100 people performed 108 Surya Namaskaras.

Students and citizens from various walks of life gathered at the ground as early as 5.30 am. Participants ranging from ages 10 to 70 enthusiastically took part in the events.

One of the participants Swapna Shivakumar said: “It was refreshing to perform Surya Namaskara in the early hours.”

Another yoga enthusiast Kiranmayi Kamath said the event filled her with positive vibes.

The eldest participant, Nagaraja B N, 70, said: “It is a pleasure to perform yoga... 108 Surya Namaskaras is not a herculean task, but it is a matter of confidence.”

While many joined the celebration physically, a few attended the event virtually and performed Surya Namaskara from the US, Singapore, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.

M K Rajesh Kumar, founder of SAY, had this to say: “Yoga is like a medicine for all the diseases. It also helps build immunity.”

Similar celebrations were held at the National College Grounds, organised by the Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samiti.

Sri Prasanna Veeranjaneya Yoga Kendra in association with S-VYASA Yoga University witnessed the celebrations with 180 students by chanting hymns and performing 1,008 Surya Namaskaras over 15 hours.
