Irked over the Palike's failure to rid the city roads of potholes, the residents and corporate employees in and around Whitefield have taken the matter into their own hands.
.
For the past some weeks now, they have been filling the potholes in their respective areas under the guidance and assistance of the famous ‘Pothole Raja’, an initiative undertaken by Prathaap Bhimasena Rao.
.
“According to the high court’s order, the BBMP was supposed to fix the potholes in the entire city by now. But we still see a plenty of them. Whitefield being the IT hub is facing the brunt due to this," said Karthik Swamy, a resident of Whitefield.
.
"Now the BBMP has got two more days to clear the potholes. Will the dream of a pothole-free Mahadevapura turn in to reality?” Swamy asked.
.
The residents are also unhappy over the recent property tax collection data that showed Mahadevapura to be the highest tax paying zone in Bengaluru.
.
“We pay road tax and our roads are hopeless. Everyone who pays road tax should raise the issue,” said Kumar S, another resident.
.
The potholes in Nallurahalli, Bellandur, Sarjapura ring road, Kundalahalli, Marathahalli have been filled by ‘Pothole Raja’ along with the residents for the past two months now.
.
“We have filled more than 100 potholes in the areas around Whitefield for two months now. The residents are fairly co-operating. In fact, I get at least seven to eight calls in a day from Mahadevapura alone, to fill up the craters,” said Prathaap Bhimasena Rao.
.
The residents want the civic body to come up with a separate app for potholes.
.
“There is some app by the Palike called ‘fix my street’ app. They do not respond to our complaint at all. We need a separate app to report potholes alone, as the menace is rising,” said Seema Goshi, a resident.
