Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday directed deputy commissioners of seven districts to identify land for setting up industrial clusters, as announced in his budget.

Kumaraswamy has also directed officers to take necessary steps to expedite the process of land conversion for approved industries across the state.

In his budget presented recently, Kumaraswamy had announced the development of Kalaburagi as ‘Bharat Solar district’, where emphasis would be given for production of solar panels, inverters, capacitors and luminators.

He has also proposed the setting up of manufacturing industry for household LED lights in Chitradurga; bathroom floor tiles and sanitary goods manufacturing in Hassan district; toys manufacturing cluster in Koppal district; an ICB manufacturing unit in Mysuru district; textile industries in Ballari; mobile phone component industry in Chikkaballapur; and sports and fitness goods industry in Tumakuru.

Speaking to reporters after the two-day review meeting with the DCs and chief executive officers of Zilla Panchayats, Kumaraswamy said that skill development centres will be set up in all districts with an aim of creating one lakh jobs in each district.

He also directed the DCs to organise Janaspandana programme every month. He said that the progress under Chief Minister’s Development Programme was low in Kalaburagi and Kolar districts. The deputy commissioners of these two districts were directed to furnish details of vacant posts in the Minority Welfare Department to the chief minister in the next two days.

He said that a separate meeting would be called to discuss the Hyderabad Karnataka area development and fill the vacant posts.

The DCs were also directed to make preparations to hold annual verifications of ration cards; ensure distribution of shoes, socks and uniforms to students by August 15; take stringent action against private schools charging more than the prescribed fees.

Kumaraswamy said that it had been decided to create ‘reserve funds’ of Rs 3 to Rs 4 crore in each district for emergency use.
