Somaiah said that he has requested the EC to fix the hearing on any of the days between October 25 to 27 to enable Jethmalani, who is also a BJP member of the Upper House, to appear before it.
The Commission had served a notice some months back to the Chief Minister on allegations of placing advertisements that were passed off as news items during the Assembly polls last year.
The EC had also sent to Chavan copies of allegations including several CDs and press clippings that the BJP had given in its complaint to the Commission.
The BJP had alleged that Chavan had overspent in his election campaign and misrepresented facts about the expenses.
