Auto driver nabbed
An autorickshaw driver, who had allegedly escaped with booty of Rs 3 lakh from a passenger, has been arrested.
Police said Anitha Kumari and her mother had hired the autorickshaw on August 23 and reached Bazaar Street at Chamarajpet. The auto driver fled even before she could remove her luggage, which included her cell phone, purse carrying of cash and gold ornaments, and silk sarees. Even, when she called him out, the driver had not stopped the vehicle.
Later, Anitha lodged a complaint with the Chamarajpet police. The police could reach him through the IMEI number of Anitha's cell phone.
The auto-driver had sold the phone to one Kiran. The police nabbed him first and during interrogation he revealed that he got the cell phone from his relative Mahesh. Police then nabbed Mahesh and recovered booty worth Rs three lakh, including 161 grams gold ornaments.
Rider killed
A 22-year-old rider was killed when he rammed his two-wheeler into a compound wall at Yeshwantpura on Monday night. Police have identified the dead as Manjunath.
