No chicken and eggs for big cats at Bannerghatta

"Chicken and eggs have high concentration of 'salmonella', the bacteria which caused the infection in some of the animals. Therefore, it has been completely stopped and only beef of high quality is being fed to animals at the park," Chief Wild Life Warden B K Singh told PTI.
Over 150 tigers at the Park are not being given chicken and eggs for the last 15 days as some of them took ill after stale chicken meat was fed to them, he said.

Singh said with the exception of one of the big cats Minchu, whose condition is stated to be serious, the appetite of 15 tigers, who were affected, has become normal now.

"Minchu, whose renal functioning has been badly affected, is hardly eating any food despite our best efforts. His condition continues to be cause for worry," he said.

A team of veterinarians is attending to the ailing animals, who have been kept in isolation. Singh said.

A four-year-old tigress and a three-month-old cub died due to infection early this month.
