ITBP team to ski down Mt Everest

However, the team won’t do it from the Chinese side but Nepalese side due to technical reasons.

The April-May expedition to the Mount Everest from the Chinese side had to be postponed due to technical reasons. We have rescheduled the exercise to August and our men will conquer the tallest peak from the Nepal side, Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Vikram Srivastava, told reporters at the flag-in ceremony from Mt Abi Gamin that was completed recently.

World record

The sources said that China neither denied nor allowed permission but the team couldn’t wait for their clearance. This feat was to be achieved in April and May but has been postponed to August. Skiing down from Mt Everest from Nepalese side will be a world record.

This team also includes one woman Inspector Bhanita Timugapi who earlier was part of the team that scaled and skiied down Mt Abi Gamin. That is a sign of things to come as Indo-Tibetan Border Police also plans to send an all women mountaineering team to conquer Mt Everest at the earliest.

If Indo-Tibetan Border Police, which has its major deployment at high altitudes and mountains will not prepare and send such a team to the Everest then who will? We will bring together the best women from the force in this effort, Srivastava said.

The paramilitary force is also scheduled to get 480 trained women personnel soon, who are currently undergoing training at Panchkula in Haryana.
