16 students suspended for posting abusive comments on Facebook

The students, including seven girls, of class XII were yesterday suspended for three months after one student uploaded the photo of the teacher and posted abusive comments on the social networking website Facebook, a school spokesman said here today.

The 15 other students of the Vivek High School had supported the comments of the student in public abusing the mathematics teacher, Director of the school H S Mamik said.

To ensure that the students did not suffer academically they have been asked to visit the school every Friday with their parents so that they could be briefed about the studies undertaken during the week, the Director said.

The school management would be meeting on October 18 to consider the request from some of the parents for reviewing the three months suspension punishment which they said was too harsh.

The abusive comments of the students came to the notice of the school management after one of the teachers, who was on the Friends list of a student, came across the photo and the comments of the students.
