Revenue authorities destroy coracle

This operation started early morning following complaints from public, non-governmental organisations regarding rampant illegal sand lifting in the area. The revenue authorities destroyed the coracle with the help of an earth moving machine. Tension prevailed for some time as soon as the authorities raided the spot. Heated debate and discussion ensued among Tahsildhar, officials and illegal sand lifters.

On information, Zilla Panchayat President S N Siddartha visited the spot and pacified illegal sand lifters. He advised them not to sand sand from the prohibited areas and also stop misbehaving with officials.

Tahsildhar Shailaja said illegal sand lifting has been going on unabated in prohibited areas despite warning. “ I will not allow illegal sand mining in the region come whatmay”.

Meanwhile, the tahsildhar said sand lifting bannedis  near Cuavery, Kapila and other river bridges in the taluk for next six months with an immediate effect.

 The orders will be in force from October 9, 2010 to April 9, 2011. This has been decided by Deputy Commissioner of Mysore following threat to ancient temples and bridges due to reckless sand lifting all along the River Cauvery.

Even Department of Muzarrai had expressed its anguish over sand lifting.   Strict legal action will be initiated upon illegal sand lifters in these places, she added.
