Need for top leadership programmes amid downturn: Phil Harkins

“The demand for leadership training is stronger now”, Harkins said while announcing at the launch of Linkage India unit here.

So far, company leaders had been trained to handle growth and accelerated growth.

However, now there is a demand for leaders who could effectively handle a downturn and communicate changes of the companies policies in terms of of freezing of hikes, promotions and other financial measures to the employees, said Linkage India CEO Romi Malhotra.

While earlier leadership was focused on taking growth to the next level, now the demand is to ensure that a company is able to hold on to its current profit levels.
All this requires leadership that has these additional capabilities.

Though admitting that budgets for training have been impacted, he said that this was pertaining to mid-level discretionary budgets for training.
Demand for top level leadership training had soared with companies realising that it needed men of quality at the helm of affairs during crisis.
