According to the police, Raju had an affair with Devi, a groundnut vendor near Kalasipalya bus stand. However, he had parted ways with her and had an affair with Viji for the last five months.
Devi decided to settle scores with Raju for having deserted her by murdering Viji. She discussed her plan with one of her friends Lokesh, the police said. The duo requested Viji to meet them near Victoria Hospital gate on October 10. They offered her liquor when she met them. They took her to Devi’s house, allegedly hit her head with sticks and strangulated with a towel. They kept the body on a pavement and fled.
