Federer, Djokovic march into semifinals

Last Updated 15 October 2010, 16:17 IST

Third seed Federer broke serve three times to wrap up the first set in 29 blistering minutes as the woeful Soderling played little more than a meek cameo role.  The second set was four minutes shorter as quick-firing Federer smashed four aces to call time in 54 blurred minutes.

Federer now faces a last four showdown with Serb Novak Djokovic who trounced unseeded Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-3. Britain's Andy Murray brushed aside burly Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 6-2 as he confirmed his return to form after a recent illness.

Murray will meet Juan Monaco in the last four after the Argentine battled to a 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over Austria's Juergen Melzer.

It’s Paes vs Bopanna
Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna set up a quarterfinal clash against each other in the doubles competition.

Third seeds Paes and Jurgen Melzer of Austria beat Brazil’s Thomaz Belluci and Serbia’s Janko Tipsaveric 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi scored a 6-3, 7-5 win over eighth seeds Dick Norman of Belgiam and South African Wesley Moodie.

Mahesh Bhupathi and his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi, seeded fifth, also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Marc Lopez and Tommy Robredo. They will next take on fourth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach.

Somdev bows out
Second seed Somdev Devvarman crashed out of the Tashkent ATP Challenger after a straight-set defeat against Milos Raonic.

The 95th-ranked Indian, who came into the tournament after winning the singles gold in the Commonwealth Games, lost 4-6, 6-7 (5-7) to the Canadian in the second round.
