'Dalits may find place in selection panel'

He was speaking at a meeting of the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe Atrocity Prevention Committee held at the DC Office here. Many Dalit leaders complained that injustice is being meted out to Dalits since the beneficiary selection committee led by the local MLA does not function properly. Responding to the complaint, the DC said that he will write to the government to include DSS workers in the committee.

The DC said that there were complaints with regard to the selection of beneficiaries for the distribution of cars to Dalits by the Tourism Department. “Hereafter, the list of beneficiaries will be made public and cars will be distributed only after verifying public suggestions and complaints from the people,” he added.

Channappa Gowda  directed Town Municipality Commissioner to vacate the stay which prevents the clearing of fish market located near Social Welfare Department Hostel. Though the Municipality had served notice to vacate the market, the Court had stayed it.

Talking about organic farming activities, members complained that scheme benefits were not made available to Dalits in the year 2008-09. The DC promised that the matter will be verified and action will be taken soon.
