“I have a two-day test in Abu Dhabi on November 24 and 27,” Armaan said. “The first is with Arden and the second one with Coloni.

“I have been on the simulator for the last few days in London, trying to get a feel of the Abu Dhabi track. I felt reasonably good on the sims and I’m hoping for a good result in the tests.”

Armaan drove in the GP2 Asia Series in 2008 for the DPR Team, and finished 10th in the Formula Two championship this year.

“My main aim for next year is to get into GP2. It is the feeder series for Formula One and F-1 is where I want to eventually be. I think GP2 is a perfect launchpad. All eyes in the F-1 world are on GP2, looking for the next big thing. If I get a seat for next year, I’m confident of doing well and hopefully making that leap into the big time.”

Armaan said he planned to go to the US if things did not pan out for him with GP2. “It is not a bad option to make a career, but hopefully, I will get a chance in GP2. I want to get into Formula One and in order to get that chance, staying in Europe is imperative.

“Getting a seat in F-1 is extremely difficult. So many things need to fall in place and at the right time, too. It’s not just about winning races, there are so many other factors involved.

“Of course, your performance on the track is important, but things like being noticed at the right time, getting a sponsor and organising finances are equally crucial.

“That is why I am working extremely hard to try to create that opportunty for myself,” said the first Asian to clinch a podium place in Formula Two.

“I can learn from guys like Narain (Karthikeyan) and Karun (Chandok), who have had the Formula One experience.

“I need to try and pick up bits and pieces that will help me become a successful motor racing driver.”
