Ray, 90, a noted barrister, who had distinguished himself as the Indian ambassador to the United States between 1992 and 1996, was cremated at the Keoratala burning ghat.
He died at his south Kolkata residence on Saturday evening following renal failure. As an ambassador to the United States, he put business firmly on the forefront of the India-United States mutual agenda and formed the India Group in the House of Representatives, besides engaging lobbyists to protect and promote India’s interests.
