Speaking on the occasion, Dr P Raghupathy, Senior Paediatric Endocrinologist of the hospital, said children with type 1 diabetes need special care as they have to take at least two doses of insulin everyday.
Since food restrictions cannot be strictly imposed on growing children, insulin is the only alternative left for parents. “We are teaching parents on ways to manage diabetes in their children by moderating their food intake, regular physical activity and doses of insulin,” he said.
The hospital organised camps to educate children with diabetes and their parents about home management of diabetes, recent advances, demonstration of home blood glucose monitoring, insulin injections, pumps HbA1c test and diet counselling.
