"There are numerous avenues for collaboration. India is an established player in the IT arena. Besides, it has made rapid strides in medical education and healthcare sectors. So, both countries should find ways to join hands," Niu said while addressing businessmen in the City on Wednesday.

On the occasion, the diplomat took a number of questions, including a few uncomfortable ones. Asked about the poor quality of Chinese products, Niu admitted that "some goods manufactured in my country are not of as high quality as we would like them to be."

Praising the bargaining skills of Indian businessmen, Niu said Chinese manufactures kept very low margins of profit. "Sometimes they make losses. But Indian traders won’t relent," he quipped.

The Consul General also urged the Government of India to ease curbs on doing business here, Niu said that protectionism would be harmful for any economy.
