You don’t get to 500 million friends without a few enemies’ says the poster of the movie, The Social Network, which has been generating a lot of buzz in the past few weeks.

And considering the subject of the film, the tagline is not far from truth.

The Social Network is based on Mark Zuckerberg, the founder the social networking site Facebook and how he put Facebook on the virtual world, thereby changing the lives of millions of young adults around the world.

The networking site changed the way people function irrevocably not only in America but also all over the world, including India.

With the movie releasing today, Metrolife speaks to some Facebook users in Bangalore to find if they would be catching the movie this weekend and why?

The young population seems to be quite taken by the concept. “The film has used the logo of Facebook for publicity and anything involving the word ‘Facebook’ is sure to catch attention,” says Akiesh, a management student.

The catchy one-liners, emphasising on Zuckerberg’s achievements, are also motivating the young generation to take a look.

“The promo of the movie says — ‘he rejected a Microsoft job when he was 18, he left Harvard when he was 21 and he is the youngest millionaire at 23’. Zuckerberg must have been really smart to think of something like that which is so out-of-the-box. I would definitely be catching the movie,” says Abhijith, an engineering student.

The movie has received a lot of critical acclaim but that doesn’t fill the seats in theatres always.

Yet in the end, it is only one thing that will push people to go and catch this flick — whether they use Facebook or not?

“I would just watch the movie because I am a Facebook fan,” says Abhijith. “At the end of the day, it is the curiosity factor which gets people into the theatres,” says Rashmi, a student.

The Social Network is coming out at a time when Facebook is at the peak of its popularity.

“I have heard about the movie and would like to see it when it comes out,” says Megha Sharma, a young IT professional. “And I think a lot of people will be catching it because Facebook is a huge phenomenon and there are a lot of Facebook users in India,” she adds.

The popularity of the site gives the movie an advantage because people who haven’t even heard of the movie are intrigued by it.

“I haven’t seen the promos of the movie but considering the number of Facebook users present, there would definitely be a lot of curiosity about it,” says Sowmya P, a professional. Looks like the all FB users will be seen at the theatres this weekend!
