M'lore varsity PG Centre will be ready in a year: VC

MSc in Microbiology, bio chemistry courses will be started at Chikkaluvara

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said that the work on the block will be completed within a year. The government had sanctioned 70.47 acre land in survey number 21 to 30 of Chikkaluvara village. The government has been requested to sanction additional 50 acre land adjacent to the already sanctioned land.

He said that this is for the first time that Mangalore University is starting its PG centre outside Mangalore. The state government has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the construction of PG Science block at Chikkaluvaa. A sum of Rs 1.5 crore has already been released, of which, Rs 50 lakh will be utilised for the construction of a compound. The government will also be urged to release additional Rs 8 crore, he added.

The VC said that MSc in Microbiology, bio chemistry courses will be started at Chikkaluvara from next year. In the next five to six years, post graduation courses in bio technology, M.Com, Chemistry will be offered at the Centre. A proposal of Rs 24.50 crore has been sent to the government for the starting of Arts and Business administration block, hostel, staff quarters and administrative block.

A sum of Rs 60 crore is required for the setting up of a full-fledged PG centre comprising arts, science, and business administration block along with administrative block and other facilities.

“To check the encroachment of the University land, we have already started the work on constructing a compound wall at the cost of Rs 51.89 lakh. An action plan of Rs 956 lakh has been prepared for science block and Rs 692 lakh for the commerce block. As the government is releasing a limited amount, it has been decided to set up science block at the cost of Rs 40 lakh in the first phase,” he added.

To a query on bus facility to Chikkaluvar PG Centre, he said first preference will be given to the setting up of hostel. A sum of Rs one crore will be utilised for the repair of FMC college building in Madikeri.
