HC seeks CBI probe reports against Rathore

Last Updated 17 November 2010, 17:12 IST

The molester cop was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday after he served about six months of his 18-month sentence at the Burail jail. The HC in Chandigarh also sought details from the Haryana government on how Rathore was promoted to the rank of DGP when a complaint of molestation was pending against him.

The bench directed CBI to provide notings on the service file relating to the promotion of Rathore as DGP.

It has been asked to furnish the record to ascertain whether the Haryana or the Central government was responsible for promoting Rathore. The case will now come up for hearing on December 24.

The division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Ranjan Gogoi took up the matter while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the World Human Rights Protection Council, an NGO,  through its chairman Ranjan Lakhanpal against Haryana, the CBI, the Union government and Ruchika’s School Sacred Heart in Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Significantly, this time Ruchika’s school has been made a party in the ongoing case. The notice to the school by the High Court assumes significance since the court directed the authorities to produce the inquiry report on the girl’s expulsion from the school allegedly at the behest of Rathore.
