Go bananas!

Raw banana is very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. It is also a good source of dietary fibre, vitamin C, potassium, manganese and vitamin B6. It keeps the body warm.   But a large portion of the calories in this food come from sugars.

Raw Banana Raita

Ingredients: Boiled, peeled and mashed raw banana — 1; Grated coconut — 1 cup; Grated ginger — 1 tsp; Green chillies — 2 tsp; Finely chopped onion — ¼ cup; Finely chopped coriander — 3 tsp; Sweet, thick, fresh curd — 1 cup; Salt to taste.
                                         
For seasoning: Coconut oil — 2 tsp; Mustard seeds — 1 tsp; Curry leaves — a few; Red chilli — 1.

Method: Grind the coconut, ginger and green chillies to a fine paste. Mix ground paste with grated raw banana, finely chopped onion, finely chopped coriander, salt and curd. Add the seasoning to above mixture and serve. This raita can be served with hot steamed rice or chapatis.

Stuffed Raw Banana Bonda

Ingredients for the batter: Urad dal — 1 cup. Soak the urad dal for 2 hours and drain it. Grind it to a fine and thick paste. Add salt to taste.

For stuffing: Boiled, peeled and mashed raw banana — 2; Ginger-garlic paste — 2 tsp; Salt to taste; Green chilli paste — 4 tsp; Finely chopped onion — 1 cup; Finely chopped coriander — 5 tsp; Jeera powder — 1 tsp; Garam Masala  — ¼ tsp; Lemon juice to taste.
Method: Mix all the ingredients well  and shape them into lemon-sized balls. Dip the balls in batter and deep fry in hot oil till they turn golden brown. Serve with chutney.
