Power demand declines after rain

She said the demand for power had come down following incessant rain in several parts of the state.

Irrigation pumpsets had not been in use because of rain. With the dip in demand in the agriculture sector, rural areas were getting quality power (three phase) for 15 hours a day. The total consumption of power on Thursday was 103 million units.

Karandlaje said she had appealed to the Centre to provide 1,534 MW of power, as sanctioned by the Centre, for the State without fail.

The State had been receiving only about 1,100 MW of power from the central power generation stations. Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had assured her of fulfilling the demand, she said.
