The award of the charter to start MIU was handed over by Y B Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, to Dr Ramdas Pai, Chairman Emeritus, at a function in Kuala Lumpur recently. With a planned investment of up to RM 650 million over the next five years, the international university will be a multi-disciplinary instituion for Malaysian and international students from South East Asian countries. Over a period of time, MIU expects up to 50 per cent of its student population from outside Malaysia.  

The classes of the first batch of the university will commence from next year. It will offer both undergraduate (bachelor’s) and postgraduate programmes in various disciplines.  The university will commence its operations from an interim campus, and its permanent campus will come up within three years.
