'Coffee Board Chief should act'

Last Updated 22 November 2010, 17:51 IST

Nearly 50 per cent of the raw coffee beans in various plantations in the district have dropped due to rains. If rains continue to lash, then the growers will not be able to collect even five per cent of the produce, he said adding “the Coffee Board President is sitting idle without listening to the problems of growers.”

Coffee Board President should visit the district and hold discussion with growers, Girish requested. “Board President should collect information regarding the problems of growers and urge the Central government to release compensation. The package, which the government has extended, is not sufficient. The government should waive the interest on loans taken by coffee growers and make them free from all financial burdens,” he said.
