More resignations in Cong as more corruption in ranks: BJP

Last Updated 24 November 2010, 12:00 IST

"She (Gandhi) has taken pride that many more in Congress have resigned because of corruption. Numerically, those who have more corrupt people in their ranks will see more resignations. It is nothing to be proud about", BJP leader Arun Jaitley told reporters here.

He was responding to Sonia Gandhi's attack on BJP for not acting against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa over corruption charges while comparing her party's decision to remove leaders like Natwar Singh, Shashi Tharoor and Ashok Chavan following allegations of irregularities.

Jaitley said, "Every party has its own mechanism in making its own judgement about issues which are raised. We have made our preliminary judgement (on Yeddyurappa). We are in the process of taking our final view. Our president has already made a statement to ratify it."

He said, "It will be best if the Congress leadership confines itself to the serious problems it is facing. For two years Raja (former Telecom Minister) continued till Parliament was stalled."

Institutions like CVC and CBI which are meant to keep a check on corruption have been converted into "instruments of cover-ups", he charged. "That is why I will say that the Congress' track record is not one of giving a sermon on corruption. More of their leaders have resigned because there are so many corrupt within them," Jaitley said.
