Check if traffic cop is eligible to inspect: Sood

Admitting that traffic police constables do take bribes, he said motorists were well within their right to know the cop questioning them can do so. For, only an officer of the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and above can stop motorists and penalise traffic rule violators, he said.

In an interaction on Thursday with journalism students from the Department of Media Studies, Christ University, Sood said, “Only ASIs and officers above them have a BlackBerry smart-phone that records and monitors every fine and offence. Motorists are advised to ask for ticket from the cops having a BlackBerry if they are caught for traffic violation,” he said.

Sood said one must be aware of all traffic rules and if one is confident he/she has not broken any rule, one has the right to question any cop who stops them.

He said ‘right turns’ in Bangalore were the biggest cause of traffic jams.
