Tipsy South African at wheel knocks down four

The injured Kausar Ali (47), Ashiya Parveen (18), Mohammad Sunil (15) and Rahul (19) were rushed to a hospital where they were treated as outpatients and discharged later.
The High Grounds traffic police arrested Philip, 22, a South African, and seized his car.

He was remanded in judicial custody for four days.

Philip, pursuing his higher studies at Ambedkar College, was said to be drunk when the accident occurred around 9.30 pm.

Ali, Parveen, Sunil and Rahul had come to the City with six others to meet their ailing relative. They met with accident when they were on their way to Fortis Hospital on Cunningham Road.

“I noticed a car moving in zigzag manner. Within seconds, it got onto a footpath and hit a pole. Suddenly, the driver reversed the car. It again hit the footpath and gained speed. Noticing the car, some pedestrians ran helter-skelter. The car hit the four and stopped after ramming into the compound wall of a shopping mall,” an eyewitness told Deccan Herald.

Police rushed to the spot and took Philip into custody. When they subjected him to a breath test, he was found heavily drunk. Philip stays at a flat in Horamavu.
Cunningham Road witnessed a half-an-hour traffic jam following the accident.

Woman found dead

A five-month pregnant woman was found dead at her house at Chaudeshwarinagar in Laggere on Wednesday.

The victim Gauri (18) was married to Ramu (25), an auto driver by profession, a year ago. She hailed from Bhadravathi.

A few neighbours noticed Gauri hanging from a ceiling fan on Wednesday morning and informed her parents. Brothers of the deceased, Keshav and Mahesh alleged that Ramu killed her for dowry and staged a suicide drama.

Mahesh said they paid nearly Rs five lakh worth dowry including cash, jewellry and other things. The brothers bought some time to arrange another Rs one lakh as they were facing financial problems.

“When we requested him to send her to Bhadravathi, Ramu locked her up and tortured. His parents are also involved in the crime,” Mahesh alleged.

Ramu is absconding.
