Twenty-six-year-old Nikhil got married to 22-year-old Rutuja Pathak, daughter of a bank officer and RSS functionary on Thursday. Nikhil looks after Gadkari’s Purti Group of Companies and Rutuja is a Hotel Management graduate who is currently doing her post-graduation in Sanskrit.

About 2,000 guests attended the wedding at Rajwada Palace Hotel here. Gadkari and his wife, Kanchan, were seen receiving the guests, including senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu. The wedding was a private affair where relatives and close family friends were invited. The four-day celebrations started on Wednesday evening with the ‘seemaan poojan’, where family members of the bride and the groom were formally introduced to each other.

The celebration will be on Friday, when a reception has been planned for VIPs. The function will be attended by prominent personalities from politics, business and entertainment. Reports suggest 15,000 guests will attend the function, to be organised at the Vidarbha Cricket Association’s Jaamtha stadium, where the recent India-New Zealand test match was held.

An unconfirmed report said 20 chartered flights will land in the city on Friday. Top BJP leaders including L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley as well as Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar would take a break from Parliament and head for Nagpur.

Apart from senior NCP and Shiv Sena leaders, top industrialists including Ambani brothers, Sangh leaders, chief ministers of several states and other VVIPs will also be in the city. Among them will be Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Gujarat’s Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
