“Through the guerrilla celebrations, they aim to spread their operations by setting up camps, recruiting youth and also inspire cadres,” said the officials.
Changing the strategy of attacking the security forces the CPI (M) will henceforth deploy the Bhum-kal (farm labour and tribal wing) and the Praja militia (paramilitary unit) in their operations in Dandkaranya forests against security forces.
Gudsa Usendi, the spokesman for Dandakaranya special zone, said in a statement that trained Bhum-kal and Praja Militia will fight the security forces in place of Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).”
These units mostly part of the front organisations will spread the message of non-cooperation with the security forces and disrupt their supplies, camps and also infiltrate security perimeters,” he revealed.
The Maoist representative said the 10th anniversary celebrations of the PGLA will be observed in all the border districts of AP for a month from Thursday, which would be used as a forum to recruit rural and tribals. The Maoists also plan to intensify their campaign against security forces during the celebrations and also regroup the guerrilla forces.
Usendi said the Green Hunt campaign launched by the Central forces with destruction of Abuj-madh, the nerve centre of CPI (M) activity had been a failure so far and had been effectively hit back. “In spite of their year-long operation, thousands of security and paramilitary forces have succeeded in penetrating into only 10 per cent of the battle zone,” he said.
The CPI (M) plan to swell the rank and file of the PLGA to the magic figure of one lakh guerrillas in the coming years with a clear plan to arm them.
The man in-charge of the Central Military Commission, Basvaraj, has also given a call to youth to join the PLGA and support the battle against Green Hunt. He appealed to writers, youth and students to take part in the campaign against security forces.
Although the forces faced stiff resistance in Dantewada, Bijpur and other forest-dominated districts of Chhattisgarh, intelligence agencies believe a firm base has been set up over the last few months in these areas.
“We have now established safe and secure camps in the forest belt and have also trained the jawans on the nitty-gritty of jungle warfare. We are now ready for future course of action against the guerrillas,” said a senior DIG of CRPF.
