The leaders, who have been on the warpath exposing each other’s ‘misdeeds,’ smiled and shook hands, as if nothing had happened between them.

The mud-slinging between them had taken an ugly turn on Tuesday when JD(S) workers attacked the residence of the chief minister’s political secretary B G Puttaswamy for making allegations of land-grabbing against Deve Gowda’s family.

But Kumaraswamy and Yeddyurappa could not hide their anger for long. The JD(S) leader, speaking on the occasion, raised the issue of land-grab allegations against his family members and dared Yeddyurappa to take over the land if there was any violation of law.

“I welcome the Chief Minister’s statement that he will take over the land in a week’s time and distribute it to Dalits,” he said, as Yeddyurappa listened patiently.

Soon after his speech, Kumaraswamy left. Yeddyurappa tried hard not to react to his statements. During his speech, the Chief Minister listed out the performances of his government and vowed to work for the development of the State.

“Even kings have been criticised in the past, despite doing good work. The ruling and the opposition parties are like the two wheels of a cart. But the opposition parties refuse to co-operate and waste time making baseless allegations,” he said.

In the end, however, Yeddyurappa made it a point to say that he would have given an appropriate reply to Kumaraswamy had he stayed back.
