Women gangraped by students

The 30-year-old victim from Mizoram's Champai district was taken by a woman to the house of two of youths at Madhurban area in Silchar town on Thursday and allegedly raped throughout the night, police sources today said quoting the FIR.

The victim yesterday escaped with the mobile phones of two boys and went to the Mizoram Circuit House in Silchar bordering Mizoram and informed the liason officer there about the incident after which he caught them and handed them over to police, the sources said.

The police yesterday arrested seven of the accused and the woman identified as Malsuam Sanga.

The woman was arrested when the students said that they had paid money for bringing the victim.

Three are students of Cachar College in Silchar, one a student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, one from Oriental School and one from Central School, the sources said.

Three of the students are sons of Assam police personnel residing at the Police Reserve Family Line at Silchar, the sources said.

The father of one of the boys was the personal security officer of an MLA and another of the district deputy commissioner.

A search was on for tracing three other youths who allegedly raped the victim, the sources said.

The victim had been sent for medical examination.
