The proposal is sent to the State government for its green signal as well as for the release of funds. This was informed by Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta who is also the chairman of the authority, at a meeting of officials of MUDA, here. Such a measure is being taken in view of shortage of houses in the city, he added.

He said the housing complex for the government employees is coming up on 15 acres of land near Srirampura. The MUDA had acquired land for the purpose of building an outer ring road. Subsequently, the ring road project was modified as it was passing through a portion of the Lingambudi tank.

Now, the MUDA is planning to form new layouts as well as the housing complex on that land.

Group housing

The DC said the MUDA had started the land acquisition process for the housing project on 25.36 acres near Dattagalli village. However, the land owners had moved the Supreme Court questioning the acquisition process. Now the case has been resolved the court has given its verdict in the favour of the MUDA.

The MUDA has resumed the acquisition process. Once it is ready, the housing complex would be ready. The proposed housing complex would have play grounds, civic amenities and other facilities for the general public.

2,000 Houses

Gupta said plans are afoot to construct 2,000 houses for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families from the MUDA.

Land is available for this purpose at Jaynagar 3rd stage, ‘G’ block, Jaynagar 4th block 2nd stage, Devanur 1st stage, Hanchya Satagalli ‘B’ zone, Shanthaveri Gopalagowda Nagar extension.

The housing complex would have three floors.

Since the MUDA was facing severe shortage of funds, it was expecting funds from the government to take up the construction under the State government’s ‘Basavashree’ scheme.

The authority is planning to entrust the construction to the Nirmiti Kendra and latest technology would be followed.

In view of this, a proposal is sent to the managing director, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation, seeking permission for the construction of 2,000 houses.

The expenditure will come to around `2.5 lakh for one unit. MUDA Commissioner P C Jayanna, Secretary Vidyakumari, Planning Joint Director M N Kumar, Superintending Engineer Shivakumar and others were present.
