As the telugu comedy film “Quick Gun Murugun” won global acclaim after being dubbed into Hindi, the man on the lead role Rajendraprasad attracted international attention. As if to prove the extent of his fame, US Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs  Atul Keshap was in the city to meet with “his favourite actor.”

Keshap, an American of Indian origin, said he had seen “Quick  Gun Murugun” and had been enthralled by the actors  humorous portrayal of the  American lifestyle, referring to the way the movie parodied the cowboys. “I’m happy for the opportunity to meet him,” he said.

He watched the actor work on his latest comedy film “Ayyare” in which he is caricaturing a god man at the centre of the major sex scandal.

Released in 2009, “Quick Gun Murugun” was directed by Shashanka Ghosh and written by Rajesh Devraj.

A take-off on the brashy and wild mannerisms of the Americans, the movie had some outlandish songs, outrageous melodrama and crazy action sequences including a duel in a traffic jam.

The movie is based on a character created for the promo of music channel (Channel V) in 1994, which had a cult following with catch phrases like “mind it” and “we are like this”.
The character also inspired the sequence in “Om Shanti Om”, in which Shah Rukh Khan does a take-off on it incorporating mannerisms of Rajinikanth.

After its Hindi dubbing, the movie has been screened at several international festivals like London Film Festival, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, the New York Asian Film Festival and in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Acknowledging his American fan, Rajendraprasad presented him a replica of the hat he wore in the film and also the notebook he carried.
