Govt school students go tech-savvy

Last Updated 05 December 2010, 19:07 IST

However, today they can use not only a PC but also are proficient in various applications such as Power Point, Excel and Word. Thanks to the initiatives by leading multinational companies, students of several state-run-schools are able to pick up skills which could not have been possible otherwise.

Impressed by their small achievements, a few students also put their newly learned skills to effective use by using them for projects like the Green School initiative.

"I have made an e-poster about water conservation, which many of my classmates liked," says Ramya N, a class 8 student.

Close to 45 students like Ramya from various parts of the State were felicitated for smart usage of technology to empower the students at an event jointly organised by Department of State Education Research and Training (DSERT), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Intel.

Further, 15 teachers and five block resource persons were also awarded for the best use of technology in education and integration of innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.

Technical skills

Members of AMBA Centre for the Economic Empowerment for the Intellectually Challenged were also recognised at this function.

According to Sugandha Sukrutaraj, the founder of the centre, technical skills have helped a majority of the members to earn a living.

Several members of the organisation like Harsha, suffering from cerebral palsy, were thrilled with the opportunity to make a small presentation about themselves at the function.

The achievements of members suffering from multiple disorders were quite impressive. The youngsters who overcame their hurdles with grit and determination work at a teleservice company.

Further, they also do data entry work for the upcoming Indian Special Olympics.
