Vanessa Holliday, the famous DJ from South Africa was in the City, for an event recently. Metrolife managed to have a word with her as she churned out some brilliant progressive house numbers which left the Bangalore’s party people craving for more. Vanessa has been DJing for around eight years now. Reminiscing her first ever performance she said, “My first gig was in a place called H2O in Johannesburg. It was a water park that housed around 12,000 people and had five dance floors. They had a wave pool too, which had people dancing on its edges.”

Vanessa started out as a dancer and always had a love for music. “I dated a DJ for a while, and then it was just a natural progression into DJing,” she added.

Talking about Bangalore she said that the traffic in the City is very different and she would never be able to drive in the City without one or two mishaps. However, she also added, “The people in the City are great, and the food, I must confess, is phenomenal.”

When asked about how different the club culture in Bangalore is compared to other cities in the world, she said, “It is quite similar to the other cities of the world, but the only big difference is that we usually start going into the parties at around 11.30 in the night.

Down here, everything is over by that time!” She also said that of the Indian DJs, she would really like to collaborate with DJ Pearl in some of her future projects. Among the international DJs she said she would like to collaborate with DJs Hardwell and Deadmaus.

While discussing the technology she is using, Vanessa said, “I am always open to the idea of experimenting with new technology. I currently use Traktor s4, which is the best controller available in the market.”

When asked to point out the one performance she will always remember, Vanessa said, “That would definitely have to be Ibiza. It is all about music and 24 hours party there. I was on the beach, and as I was DJing the sun was setting on the backdrop. It was a wonderful experience,” she shared.
