Last Updated 05 July 2009, 18:52 IST

The committee was constituted on June 6, 2009 under the chairmanship of the Director, Medical Education Department, Dr A R Aruna and assisted by University Syndicate member, Chiknanajappa and the Medical Administrator for the Health and Family Welfare Department.

The committee was given time up to June 20, 2009 to submit its report. However, the inaction on the part of the Minister for Medical Education, till date, has raised questions on the seriousness of the government in addressing the issue. The 23-page report submitted by the committee has  pointed fingers on changing the revaluation process four times in a single year as the reason for the entire fiasco. The committee has cited instances showing discrepancy in the challenge valuation.

One such instance records the name of Avina Prakash who secured 29 marks in a certain section of the paper when it was only for 20 marks. In another case the marks secured by the candidate with the examination code 1167 was given to him the very next day while other candidates waited for three to four months for their results.

While results are awaited for 40 medical students who appeared for the examination in April 2009, the revaluation applications submitted by 106 students in the month of December 2008/January 2009 are still missing according to the report.

The committee, in its recommendations has asked the government to make the process of revaluation more transparent; stern action against evaluators found guilty of illegality and blacklist their names; ensuring safety of the answerscripts during valuation that needs to be conducted only in government institutions; decreasing the fee for revaluation for undergraduate students by Rs 1,000 and by Rs 500 for PG programmes and to make public the photocopies of the answerscripts in 15 days and complete the revaluation if any, within two months of conducting the examination.
