Valuables worth Rs 1.18 crore seized, 14 nabbed

"The valuables seized include 2.700 kgs of gold ornaments, 10 kgs of silver and Rs 60 lakh cash", City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari told the press here today.

Important cases solved included the arrest of six accused in the murder of 31 year-old Kannada actress Manjula on July 10 and recovery of Rs 55 lakh worth of valuables including Rs six lakh which had been given as "Supari" amount to the main accused and Rs 52 lakh cash, from them, he said.

Two notorious burglars involved in 12 burglary cases including those in Tumkur, Chintamani, Tiptur and Mysore were nabbed and gold ornaments worth Rs 28 lakh and Rs two lakh cash was recovered from them.

Busting the Muthoot Finance Company dacoity case in 2009, CCB sleuths nabbed one of the accused who was absconding since then and seized gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh from him. A reward of Rs 20,000 was announced for the team.

Another burglary case involving Chemmanur Jewellers in 2008 was solved with the arrest of the main accused and recovery of 750 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh from him.

A notorious rowdy who used to extort money from shopkeepers and businessmen in the form of "Hafta" was nabbed and Rs five lakh cash seized from him.

In these two cases, a reward of Rs 20,000 was announced for the teams.
