Petrol to cost 62.88 in City

Last Updated 14 December 2010, 19:57 IST

The fuel price hike became imminent after global crude oil prices rose to $88-90 per barrel, a BPCL official said. Other oil companies, however, have not hiked the prices but are likely to follow suit. No increase in prices of diesel has been announced so far.

Ever since the government deregulated the pricing of petrol on June 25,  state-owned OMCs have revised the retail prices of petrol four times.

As per an estimate, with the global crude oil prices touching $ 90 per barrel on Monday night, all the three state-owned oil retailers are losing Rs 4.17 per litre on selling petrol.

However, 308 units failed to get the NOC and 225 healthcare establishments did not get BBMP licences.

According to the directions provided under the BBMP circular, healthcare units will have to dispose of the hazardous biomedical waste through effluent plants constructed by incinerator manufacturing firms Ramki or Mardi.

BBMP records state that only 225 units have been disposing   of hazardous bio-medical waste through effluent plants while 554 units have failed to do so.

Poor state

So poor is the status of the disposing of the bio-medical waste that not a single effluent plant was found in the entire Yelahanka zone.

The BBMP has now issued a public appeal to citizens informing them about the Lok Adalat directions to the KSPCB to ensure the scientific and systematic disposal of  biomedical waste.
