Christmas vacation is round the corner and school children are eagerly looking forward to it.  After all, it gives the kids a break from the drudgery of homework, exams, tests, classes and carrying a bag full of books daily to school.

Pursuing hobbies, going on an excursion with family or simply spending time with cousins and loved ones are some of the things that children love to do during the vacation.

Metrolife interacted with some school students to find out how they are planning to spend their vacation.  For twins Hrishikesh P Athreya and Riddhi, both class 6 students, it’s time to pursue their long forgotten interests.

“We play with each other. My sister loves painting. I like collecting chocolate papers and different kinds of pebbles. This is also the time to test my potentials and discover new things,” says Hrishikesh.

Riddhi says she also helps her mother in the kitchen with some of the chores.
Many children, deprived of play time when the schools are open, choose to devote their holiday to playing. Sumedh, a seventh standard student says, “My vacations are reserved for playing all day. I hardly get time to play with my neighbours and friends when I have school.”

Tarun Ganesh, a class 5 student simply can’t wait for the holidays to begin. “My vacations are set aside for visiting new places. I discover new things on my trips every time. There is always something new to learn. It is an amazing experience to take long trips,” he says.

For Shakthidhar, studying in class 8, vacation is about enjoying oneself to the fullest. “Vacations during school days are something that we’ll never get back later in life. It’s so much fun to do naughty and mischievous things which we can’t do after a point of time,” he says.

Tushar R P Shindhe, a class 10 student says, “Holidays are the time when I get to revive my pastime. I love collecting coins, notes and stamps. Apart from that I also make new science models. This being my last vacation in school I want to enjoy and make the most of it.”

Gautham Pathi, another class 10 student, will be utilising his vacation doing a photography course.

“Every vacation is special because it gives time to young minds to discover and experiment something new. Vacations give us time to improve on hobbies and practice them better which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible.”

Although the Christmas vacation is short, school children are all set to enjoy and use each moment of it judiciously.
