MLC M C Nanaiah has ridiculed the Congress, which is the prominent opposition party, for its failure to face the BJP.

Addressing a JD(S) party workers convention at Kodava Samaja on Thursday, he said that the Congress has failed to wage war against the scams and corruption brought in by the BJP in the State.

“Some of the Congress leaders are openly saying that their party had made a secret alliance with the BJP. The JD(S) is strong enough to fight against the corrupt BJP government and it has done its best over the last four months to pull down the BJP government at the State,” he said and opined that the Congress and the BJP are similar to each other.

“Politics is not a profession but unfortunately some BJP leaders who have entered politics with the aim of making money, thereby transforming politics into business. The property owned by CM B S Yeddyurappa and his children is a proof for this,” he said.

“The BJP is all set to face the ZP, TP polls using money power. They are spending about Rs 10 lakh per ZP constituency and Rs 5 lakh per TP constituency for the election. This money has been looted from the people by the BJP,” he said.

JD(S) ready

Nanaiah said that the JD(S) will field its candidates for 29 ZP constituencies and 49 TP constituencies of Kodagu district. “We will face the election on our own and alliance will be done only if need arises and if Congress is willing to join hands in certain constituencies,” he said.

He opined that the stand of the party to face election on its own is politically correct but alliance will be done in case Congress makes the first move.

“The number of candidates aspiring to contest from JD(S) ticket is huge. Candidates have been finalised and the list will be out in a day or two,” Nanaiah said and added that the confusions existing in certain JD(S) units will be solved, he said speaking specifically of Somwarpet taluk JD(S) unit where there is drift among the members.

Former MLA D S Madappa said that the JD(S) will cash in on the confusions existing within the BJP folds during this elections. “We will make use of those candidates who will come to JD(S) because of denial of ticket from other parties,” he said.

Virajpet JD(S) unit President Kanda Bheemaiah said that there is a need for JD(S) to join hands with Congress in Virajpet specifically.

Disappointment

Somwarpet unit former president C V Nagesh said that the party workers who had worked hard to build the party have been neglected. “On what basis was Bharath Kumar, who came to JD(S) from BJP, was made Somwarpet taluk president.

B A Jeevijaya who came from Congress too has been working according to his will and wish, neglecting the party workers,” he said.

Nanaiah intervening here, said that any difference of opinion must be sorted out by discussion. He asked Nagesh not to raise the issue on stage. However, large number of party workers present at the programme supported Nagesh. Nanaiah ended the chaos by holding talks with the party workers.
