Will maintain peace and harmony in AP: parties assure T-panel

The political parties – Congress, TDP, TRS, PRP, CPI and CPI (M) – also thanked the five-member committee for hearing their views in the past 10 months and finishing the task of completing the report in the stipulated time.

Leaders of the political parties gave the assurance of maintaining "peace and harmony" to the committee at an informal meeting yesterday in Hyderabad.

"All the six parties assured that they will extend unequivocal support to the five-member panel.They also promised us that they will take all steps to maintain utmost peace and harmony in the state after we submit our report to the Government," the panel's Member-Secretary Vinod K Duggal told PTI here today.

He said the leaders also promised them that they will advice their cadres accordingly.
He said all the parties acknowledged that the committee’s views will be "unbiased" and the recommendations to be made by the panel will represent the real situation in the state.

The Srikrishna Committee travelled to Hyderabad yesterday for an informal meeting with leaders of recognised political parties as it gears up to submit the report on the situation in Andhra Pradesh to Home Minister P Chidambaram by December 31.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and other senior bureaucrats and police officials also called on the committee in Hyderabad yesterday.

Duggal said the political parties also "praised" the panel for their work in the past 10 months to submit the report on time.

"All political parties thanked us for the support that we extended to them.They appreciated us for completing such a daunting task within the stipulated time. They hoped that the report will be a detailed study of the situation in the state," he said.

The Committee for Consultations on the Situation in Andhra Pradesh held wide-ranging consultations with major political parties and organizations and received nearly 1.15 lakh representations.

They also held meetings with minority organisations, SC, ST and BC organisations.The panel also toured Andhra Pradesh extensively in the past five months and will analyse the situation in the report.

The committee has been mandated to look into the demands for a separate Telangana state as well as a united Andhra Pradesh.
